First Ecovillage Home is Carbon Negative on Electricity

EcoVision has been installed at the home of Clare and Denis Johnston and much to their delight is showing the building is consistently exporting power to the grid and providing an overall net greenhouse credit on electricity.
Early results from EcoVision at the Ecovillage at Currumbin are proving the value of passive solar building design and energy efficient appliances combined with a rooftop photovoltaic array at a new rammed earth home proudly owned by Clare and Denis. In the first month around 200kWh of energy was generated with around half of this exported to the grid, resulting in greenhouse savings of around 900 kg. At this rate annual savings of around 10 tonnes of greenhouse gas offsets are predicted on electricity supply. This trend is expected to be verified in coming months as the next dozen or so EcoVision systems are deployed.
